Through the study of the human figure explore various issues regarding identity and human relationships
This course is conceived as an introduction to figure drawing. It raises technical as well as philosophical challenges, primarily basing its process on the pleasure of discovering new perceptions and of creating an image. Each student is guided by the teacher in ways adapted to his/her owns needs, and the group is run in a non-competitive atmosphere.
At a technical level, the students are asked to revisit their perceptions of reality in order to gather the most accurate visual information for representational means, thus shifting from a functional perception to a fresher, more vivid and refined vision. Such a shift is encouraged through a series of practical exercises, each focused on a specific aspect of drawing, i.e. line, negative space, shape, tone, shadows and lights, texture, volume, gesture, composition, dynamics and perspective.
At a philosophical level, students are invited to increase their awareness of perceptive, creative and representational mechanisms. Through the study of the human figure, they also explore various issues regarding identity and human relationships.
