16th & 17th Century Music and Performance Workshop
Trends that shaped the tastes of other Italian and European cultural centers.
The Siena School for Liberal Arts offers an intensive three-week course for high-level students of vocal and instrumental music. Enriched by guest lectures and faculty concerts, the program concentrates on works by Renaissance and baroque masters-from relatively undiscovered composers such as Pecci, Bianciardi, and Saracini to their more famous colleagues such as Monteverdi, Marenzio, and Vecchi. "Heavenly and Earthly Powers" culminates in a final concert, performed by the students themselves, held in a meaningful, historical venue and dedicated to bringing to life again sacred and secular music from the city itself and from other centers connected to Siena by various sonorous strands.
