From the Human figure to the Landscape
This unique and exciting course is designed to cover beginning though. Advanced level painting principles, techniques and theories, according to each individual student's skills and ability. The curriculum will address every aspect of the painting process: setting up and preparation of surface and material, examining and "seeing" your subject, blocking in and starting sequences, composition and design, drawing and sight-measuring skills, values, color and light, edge control, harmony and rhythm, technique and application of different media, idea and concept generation for narratives within the image and the philosophies and theories behind the art of realist painting.
Working only from life, the human figure will be the main focus. Students will explore a range of approaches, including fast gesture-capturing skills and longer more time-involved compositions, with figure and environment combined. Still life and landscape subjects will also be introduced for a well balanced development in painting. This course will be both challenging and enlightening for each individual, regardless of past experience and Skill level, and will seamlessly combine the physical, mental, emotional, social and energetic aspects of painting as a vehicle for connection to the self, human kind and nature.
*A Foundational Drawing Course must have been previously completed or may be taken simultaneously with the Painting Corse at the Siena School as a prerequisite.
